    FAQ

Why do the numbers in the first table differ from the numbers in the second?

Two reasons. The first and most obvious is that the first table (browsers, os and languages) was collect over a period of 3 days, and the second is the selection of data. In the second table (Referals) all hits are counted as long as they are referals to this site and not from another page on this site. The first table does not count hits where no User Agent information is provided. Many web servers do not provide this information in the environment variable I used to collect the data.

    What are Non Referals?

Non referals are hits that don't have a referal page in their environment array. This could happen if the page was opened from a book mark in a web browser or entered in the input field of the location bar. It could also happen if the Web server did not provide that string in the environment array.

Why did you bother to collect all this information?

I want to plan the updates to my site that they are more user friendly. In order to do that, I need to determine what types of operating systems and with what frequency are visiting my sites, and what types of browsers and languages they are using. I decided to separate the search engines into a separate category so I can strategize my submissions to the search engines. It is also handy to know just what types of interests are getting the most hits.
